Billie Eilish Says She "Can't Win" Against Trolls Who Body Shame and Criticize Her Clothes

From Cosmopolitan

  • Billie Eilish is fed up with people online who trolled her for wearing a bathing suit while on vacation earlier this year.
  • In her recent Dazed interview, Billie said she got a lot of hate for wearing a bikini and can't win against body shamers.
  • You know that creepy thing some online trolls tend to do, where they make unnecessary comments about teens' bodies and the clothing that they wear? Yeah, that. Sadly, Billie Eilish has been a victim of this behavior since she's gained popularity, even though she's known for wearing purposefully baggy 'fits so people can't have a dialogue about her bod. But when Billie went on vacation earlier this year and wore a bathing suit—call the cops!!—mean people wouldn't let her be.

In Billie's recent interview with Dazed, she recalls reading comments after posting the bathing suit pics to her Instagram. "I saw comments like, 'How dare she talk about not wanting to be sexualized and wear this?!'" she said. "It was trending. There were comments like, 'I don't like her anymore because as soon as she turns 18 she's a whore.' Like, dude. I can't win."

Here's what Billie posted of herself, in case you were wondering:

Back in May, Billie opened up about why she often chooses to wear baggier clothes. "Nobody can have an opinion [on my body]. because they haven't seen what's underneath," she said in a behind-the-scenes video for her Calvin Klein campaign. "Nobody can be like, 'she's slim-thick,' 'she's not slim-thick,' 'she's got a flat ass,' 'she's got a fat ass.' No one can say any of that because they don't know."As frustrating as this may be for Billie, she acknowledges that she will probably always be critiqued if she wears anything dramatically different from her normal wardrobe staples."If I wore a dress to something, I would be hated for it. People would be like, 'You've changed, how dare you do what you've always rebelled against?' I'm like, 'I'm not rebelling against anything, really,'" she said. "I can't stress it enough. I'm just wearing what I wanna wear. If there's a day when I'm like, 'You know what, I feel comfortable with my belly right now and I wanna show my belly,' I should be allowed to do that."Now for the millionth time—can we please just focus on Billie's music and like...not go in on what she chooses to put on her body???
