Santa Paula police make arrests in burglaries at hardware store western clothing shop

Police are offering businesses several tips on how to prevent burglaries after hours.

The Santa Paula Police Department arrested suspects in two separate commercial burglaries earlier this month, authorities said Thursday.

The first burglary was reported at 12:39 a.m. May 8 at Ace Hardware, 568 W. Main St.

Police on scene found a front window smashed open and merchandise was stolen. Through an investigation, officers determined two suspects were involved in the burglary.

The second burglary occurred at 1:59 a.m. Wednesday at El Vaquero Guero Western Wear, 989 E. Main St. The burglary also involved a window smashed open, although investigators found only one suspect was involved. according to police.

Later that day, police arrested Maximo Hernandez, 30, of Santa Paula, on an unrelated incident.

While Hernandez was being booked, a police officer recognized Hernandez from security footage documenting both burglaries. Hernandez was arrested on suspicion of both burglaries as well as the unrelated charges.

On Thursday, detectives served a multi-location search warrant with Santa Paula's SWAT team in connection with the burglaries. Antonio Porcallo, 27, of Santa Paula, was contacted and arrested as the second suspect in the Ace Hardware burglary, according to authorities.

During the service of the warrant, a 22-year-old Santa Paula woman was arrested on suspicion of resisting a police officer and a 33-year-old Santa Paula man was arrested on suspicion of possessing nunchakus.
